THE CARETAKER Version 1.2
=========================

You're the new caretaker at The Overview; chosen to single handedly look after this remote hotel throughout the icy winter months. We join you on your first day of complete isolation; waking up very late following the end of season staff party high in the mountains and cut off from the world by the first of the big snow storms. It's time to leave your room and make your first check of the deserted hotel.

I hope you enjoy this short experience which I've worked on over the past month when possible; inspired by The Overlook Hotel featured in The Shining, and released over the Halloween Weekend.
A controller is recommended for movement throughout this experience, however a typical WASD movement scheme is included.

Thanks lots for taking the time to play!
Fran Boot

Version 1.2
============

March 15th 2016. Some minor changes to improve appearance, performance and gameplay for players.

CHANGELIST

-Fix to bounding box for doors to stop players getting stuck on the handle!
-Removed some deferred decals from the hallway to improve performance
-Updated font in intro and outro

Version 1.1
============

January 1st 2016. This is mainly to improve user experience, but does contain some additional content. Thanks to those on Oculus Share who provided feedback on the content.

CHANGELIST

-Improved control scheme - In the initial release, the camera rotation was detached from the player model, which led to some strange rotation issues when navigating the level. This has been fixed, and now the user can direct their movement toward the HMD's orientation.
-Added rotation comfort mode. First person movement is pretty difficult to get right, and one of the elements which can cause nausea is yaw rotation. I've added a ratcheted "comfort mode" of the type seen in Windlands. This will rotate the player in 15 degree increments rather than smoothly, which can help improve comfort levels. To toggle this, hit C in-game, or the Right gamepad face button (B on an Xbox controller).
-Allowed controller / mouse pitch control if HMD is not enabled (better non VR playthroughs).
-Added player footsteps. To improve immersion, I've added player footstep audio to this release, which change dependent on speed of movement and the material the player is walking on.
-Added locked door audio for better feedback to the user.
-Updated to Unreal Engine 4.0, Oculus Runtimes 0.8.
-Added spookiness!
-Improved reliability of the end of the experience.
-Added more corridor detailing; new meshes.
-Improved wall artwork.
-Various minor tweaks and bug-fixes.
-Reduced overall size - 1.3gb to 700mb uncompressed, by removing unnecessary resources.
-Enabled Oculus Audio Plugin in UE4
